Information on Student's Welfare

 

Accommodation

Access to free accommodation have all the financially weakest students.

Halls of Residence

The Halls of Residence is the place to create strong bonds of friendship, to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures and to enjoy the sense of community. In Arta there is one Hall of Residence in which students can stay free of charge.

In Ioannina there are two Halls of Residence housing 500 and 650 students respectively.

All accommodation is mixed, with a number of standard rooms (with shared bathroom facilities) or en-suite rooms. The majority of rooms are single-study bedrooms, although there are some shared rooms, especially in Arta. More information concerning accommodation can be provided on request.

Catering

The Student Restaurant of the Technological Educational Institution (T.E.I.) of Epirus provides meals to undergraduate students on a full-board (breakfast, lunch, dinner) daily basis. The Restaurant is open daily between 1st September and 5th July, and has a 14-day break over Christmas and Easter Vacations.

In Arta the Student Restaurant is located in the centre of town, in Kilkis Square.In Ioannina and Igoumenitsa it is conveniently located on campus, and in Preveza students are provided with free catering in various restaurants in town.

Citizens of the European Union Member States (whether academics, students or staff) visiting the Technological Educational Institution (T.E.I.) of Epirus for a short time are provided with free access to the Student Restaurant.

Student Pass

A Student Pass is provided to each student for the duration of undergraduate studies (as specified by his/her Department, increased by two years). The pass is issued on a yearly basis and is valid from 1st September to 31st August. In the event that a pass is lost, a new one will be issued two months after the loss has been reported to the Departmental Secretary?s Office. The following discounts are provided to students: 25% on urban transport, on long-distance road transport, on railway transport and 25% on the fare of domestic flights with Olympic Airways.

Health Care - Insurance

Students who are not covered by a statutory social security system are insured by the Technological Educational Institution (T.E.I.) of Epirus and are entitled to free Health Care. The insurance card is provided by the Secretariat office of each Department, after application.

The services include free medical examinations and consultations, free vaccinations and general medical treatment. Although students have to pay for the medicine they buy, they can get their money back from the Budgeting and Expense Office of the Institution.

Citizens of European Union Member States (whether academics, students or staff) visiting the Technological Educational Institution (T.E.I.) of Epirus for a short period of time, should be provided (from their country and on condition that they are insured by or covered by a statutory social security system) with the European Health Insurance Card or a provisional replacement certificate.

The European Card will facilitate access to health care (during their stay in Greece), but will only cover medical care "which becomes medically necessary during a stay in the territory of another Member State, taking into account the nature of the benefits and the expected length of the stay". Such treatment is provided in accordance with the rules of Greece and the costs incurred are reimbursed in line with the tariff scales applied in Greece. More information can be provided upon request.

Medical Facilities-Blood Bank

For over fifteen years blood donation has been held at the premices of the Technological Educational Institution (T.E.I.) of Epirus in Arta, by the Department of Haematology of General Hospital "Hatzikosta", of Ioannina, twice a year (autumn and spring) for the blood bank of the Institution. This effort has been activated voluntarily by student doners and members of the educational and administrative staff. The aim of this effort is to donate blood to all members of our Academic Community in case of emergency.

Financial Support for Students

Reciprocal grants

They are offered to undergraduate students with the obligation to work on a part-time basis, offering various services to the Institution for a limited number of hours. Students can be hired in libraries, laboratories, clinics, student houses etc.

Other Scholarships or bank loans

These are offered to all undergraduate students according to the Greek Law, the Internal Regulation of Studies of the Institution, the National Unit regulations etc. The choice of the students entitled to a scholarship or a bank loan is made by the Board of the Department after checking all the legal restrictions Moreover, students with serious financial problems are entitled to receive subsidized bank loans -with no interest-, provided they have passed successfully all the compulsory subjects of the previous semester of their studies. The loan is given in installments at the end of each semester. Students must pay back their loan in 15 years time after the end of their studies.

Physical Education

The students and the personnel of the Institution are given the opportunity to improve their general fitness and spend their spare time by participating in a wide range of athletic and recreation activities such as:

-Football

-Basketball

-Volleyball

-Tennis

-Table Tennis

-Greek FolkDances

Classes are supervised by the educational staff of the Division and are held regularly during each semester. In addition, the Physical Education Division organizes and participates in various Panhellenic Higher Education Sports Events and Tournaments, conducted under the auspices of the Higher Education Athletics Committee of the Ministry of Education.

The Greek Folk Dances Group of the Institution participates in various cultural events and festivals throughout the country.

Students Associations

All students are entitled to register as members of their Departmental Student Union. In accordance with the national legislation, representatives of the Student Unions participate in the Institutional Administrative Bodies.
